Oldest Known Auschwitz Survivor Dies

Antoni Dobrowolski, the oldest known survivor of Auschwitz, passed away on Sunday at age 108. He died in the northwestern Polish town of Debno, according to sources in Poland.

Dobrowolski, who was not Jewish, was captured by the Nazis and sent to Auschwitz for his activities in the Polish underground. He was later transferred to the Gross-Rosen and Sachsenhausen concentration camps, where he remained until he was liberated at the end of World War II.

He was 48 years old when he was arrested in 1942.

After the war, he moved to the small Polish town of Debno, where he was principal of a high school. He remained in Debno until he died. His funeral will be held Wednesday, officials in the town said.
