Rivka Epstein-Hattin was raised in a home which combined a strong Jewish identity with an appreciation for great general culture and quality music. Mature for her years, Rivka made a choice to sacrifice the warmth of her family for a proper Jewish education, and spent most of her later childhood years living far from home.
Now living in Israel and a music teacher and composer of Jewish-themed musical scores, Rivka talks about the teaching of music as a lesson in discipline, in self-confidence, in introspection, and most importantly, in helping a child find his or her own voice in this world. She shares some of her thoughts about music in the Jewish world, including the power of the melody of Jewish prayer which moves so many of us, and about the sensitive topic of Jewish women singing.
With warmth and insight, Rivka Epstein-Hattin helps us see that music is not only the fabric of our lives, but a powerful tool which can be used to have a positive affect on the world.
