“And G-d spoke to Moshe and Aharon in the land of Egypt, saying: HACHODESH HAZEH LACHEM… This month (of Nisan, during which you will be taken out of Egypt) shall be FOR YOU the first of your months; it is the first FOR YOU of the months of the year.”
G-d gave us a magnificent gift. He gave us our own calendar with a cycle of holy days that are part of it. And He brought us into partnership with Him on the establishment of that calendar and the sanctification that is an essential element in that calendar.
When we date a personal check with the Jewish date, we are saying thank you to G-d for that gift, and we are beseeching Him to restore the Sanhedrin, hasten the coming of Mashiach, rebuild the Beit HaMikdash (not necessarily in that order).
That’s a lot to attach to simple little things like knowing your Jewish birthdate. But it’s our mitzvah.
