For the First Time, Canada Strips Terrorist of Citizenship

The Canadian government has revoked the citizenship of Zakaria Amara, one of the senior members of a Toronto terror group that was exposed in June 2006. The National Post reports that he has also been sentenced with life in prison.

The law, which Prime Minister Stephen Harper pushed through parliament, allows authorities to cancel Canadian citizenship for dual-citizens who are convicted of terror offenses, treason, or membership in an enemy military.

Amara, who intended to blow up truck bombs in the heart of downtown Toronto, is expected to be deported to Jordan after serving his prison sentence.
