Millions Pack Synagogues over Yom Kippur

Millions of Jews packed synagogues throughout Israel and the Jewish Diaspora today to celebrate Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

The festive season will conclude with Sukkot next week, which will see a boon in local and foreign tourism as pilgrims and other visitors flock to Jerusalem and other parts of the holy land.

The Tzohor rabbinical organization reported that tens of thousands attended its various Yom Kippur prayers throughout Israel – many of them secular Israelis.

Train services will not be restarting in Israel until 12 midnight, with the exception of the Nahariya-Tel Aviv line (which will resume services at 11:11 p.m.) and services to Ben Gurion airport, which will function as per usual.
