PA Officers Swerve, Hit Israeli Family

A car crash Saturday involving an official Palestinian Authority convoy left nine people injured. Six of the wounded belong to a single Israeli family.

The crash was caused by PA security officers driving in a convoy with newly appointed PA Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah. As they drove near the town of Tekoa in the Gush Etzion region the officers swerved across a solid white line in an apparent attempt to illegally pass another vehicle.

They crashed head-on into a car carrying an Israeli family from Tekoa.

The two parents suffered moderate-to-serious injuries, and their four children were lightly injured. They were all taken to Hadassah Ein Karem hospital.

Three PA security officers were lightly injured as well. They were evacuated by a Red Crescent ambulance to a PA-run hospital in Hevron.

Hamdallah’s car was not involved in the accident.

Hamdallah resigned as PA Prime Minister less than three weeks after he was appointed, but has agreed to stay on until a replacement can be found.
